Universal credit calculator

Universal credit calculator

Universal credit is being phased in and will eventually apply in all areas of the UK. Because it covers several state benefits the rules are complex and calculating the actual amount you are entitled to depends on many factors. Ultimately your local benefits office is responsible for determining the amount of universal credit you receive. Our calculator works out an estimate of how much this might be.

Replacement

Universal credit will replace the following:

  • income-based jobseeker’s allowance
  • housing benefit
  • working tax credit
  • child tax credit
  • income-related employment and support allowance
  • income support.

Using the calculator

After starting the calculator, you must answer all the questions on the first Input screen. Depending on your and, if appropriate, your partner’s circumstances, you might need to enter more information on two further screens relating to your children and the property you live in. A detailed forecast of your entitlement to universal credit is produced when you click the Results button.
